Quotes
I will usually price a job from a photograph and a description, without coming out to look at it. That keeps it quick for both of us, and it works nearly all of the time.
It does mean a quote is based on what I was shown. If the job in front of me is materially different from what was described, I will tell you what it actually costs before I start, not afterwards. You are free to say no at that point and there is nothing to pay.
[ still to confirm: how long a quote stands ]
Booking and cancelling
If you booked over WhatsApp, over the phone or at your door, that counts as an off-premises contract, and you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of agreeing it. If you ask me to start inside those 14 days and then cancel, you may have to pay for what has already been done.
[ still to confirm: notice period for cancelling, and whether a wasted-journey charge applies ]
A wasted journey is the one thing that genuinely costs a one-person business: there is no second van to send somewhere else. So if you need to move an appointment, the earlier you tell me the easier it is for both of us.
What cleaning can and cannot do
I will get your carpets as clean as they can be got. What I will not do is promise that every mark will come out.
Some stains are not dirt. Bleach, some medicines, pet urine left long enough and certain dyes change the colour of the fibre itself, and no amount of cleaning brings back a colour that is no longer there. Old traffic lanes in a hallway can also be worn rather than dirty, and wear does not wash out.
If I think a mark is not going to lift, I will say so before I start rather than after I have taken your money.
Damage and insurance
I hold public liability insurance covering up to £1 million.
[ still to confirm: whether the policy covers treatment risk, meaning damage to the carpet being worked on ]
If something of yours gets damaged while I am working, tell me straight away and I will put it right or claim for it.
Payment
[ still to confirm: payment methods accepted, and when payment is due ]
Offers and discounts
These are the offers on my own cards and flyers. Mention the one that applies when you get in touch and I will take it off the quote.
- 10% off your first clean, for new customers.
- 15% off for Blue Light Card holders — emergency services and NHS staff.
- 15% off through the Defence Discount Service, for the military community.
- A free bottle of spot and stain remover with three carpets, or with selected commercial maintenance plans. On its own it is £10 a bottle.
- A free quote, with no obligation. Pricing a job costs you nothing and puts you under no obligation to book it.
[ still to confirm: what proof of eligibility the two 15% discounts need and how they are claimed, whether any of these offers can be combined with each other, any minimum spend, whether they apply to commercial work, whether they are open-ended or time-limited, and which maintenance plans include the free bottle ]
Complaints
Ring me. It is a one-person business, so there is no complaints department to get past and no script.
If something has gone wrong I would much rather hear it from you than read it in a review, and I will tell you plainly what I can and cannot do about it. If we cannot sort it between us, you have the usual rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by Scots law, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. Nothing here removes any right you have as a consumer that cannot be signed away.
